Visio 2k8 - Please help me identify the question I need to ask(seriously, I'm stuck)

Ok, I have Visio 2008 and I have an HP Sim Server.

What I want to do is populate a visio diagram dynamically based on
database calls to the Sim Server.

I am not looking for someone to do the work for me, I am trying to
find out what I need to search for so I can build it myself but I cant
even begin to build the question I need to ask google.

If anyone can point me in the general direction, I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thanks for your assistance

For a start, I am unaware of a v2K8 (v2007-yes, v2010-in beta).
The first question is do you have the Visio SDK which has examples of how to
use various languages to write your solution in.
Another question might be have you checked either Chris Roth's site
(www.visguy.com) or John Marshall's site (visio.mvps.org) for a list of
books on Visio software development.
Another question might be, have you visited the msdn.microsoft.com site and
checked out the library for office development (lot's of examples and
tutorials on code, don't ignore the older versions of visio they still have
a lot of value).
