Visio and CAD Drawings

First off, I'm writing this from a CAD person's perspective, not a
Visio expert. I'm using Visio2000 Professional edition.

I would like to be able to take blocks from CAD drawings, insert and
align them in a Visio drawing, then add notes and a few overall
dimensions. It sounds simple but I'm having a few problems.

I can figure out the scale issue and I can insert multiple DWG files as
blocks, but how do I line them up? I can use the grid and snap them
close to each other but that's not exactly what I want. I need to put
blocks together edge on edge and line up the centers. If I use the
alignment tool, I think it uses the frame around the block for
alignment and not the lines in the block. Is it possible to use the
actual block entities for alignment?

Then, is there a way to add actual dimensions? I can throw in a few
lines with arrows and add some text to represent dimensions. Is that as
close to dimensions as I'm going to get?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
