Visio drawing objects lose some formatting in PowerPoint

B

Bill F.

When I insert a VISO drawing object into PowerPoint, I lose some of the
formatting (in particularly the line style -- some dashed lines get
"converted" to solid lines). [This is with Office and VISIO 2003.]

The only way I can REALLY maintain the proper format is to use the "copy
drawing" feature in VISIO, and paste it in as a bitmap. Pasting it in as a
VISIO drawing object, or a Windows metafile, or an enhanced metafile does not
seem to work.

I have a simple test drwaing that shows this tha I am willing to mail --
PowerPoint "converts" line style #2 (small dashed line) to solid lines in
this case.

Hi Bill,

I can reproduce this issue as well
But only if I create shapes with the freeform tool
then apply dashed line style 2
and then only in certain circumstances
for instance when the shape contains more then one NURBS element
or in case of one NURBS element when you have a negative EndX value as in
the following:

1. choose as line style the first dashed line from the top
2. in a blank drawing draw a horizontal line with freeform tool
3. set the endY to a negative value
4. copy the line and place it in a powerpointslide
Result: the line style is no longer dashed but continueous

Any weight value of the line equal or above 0.9 pt overcomes this issue

I think it is a bug, but yeah...

Thank you -- this helps, but my results are a bit different than yours. I
lose the dashed lines until I make the line width about 1.8 point (1.7 does
not work). I just dragged the rounded rectangle (no freeform tool), and have
this for most if not all dashed line styles.

So I guess I'll have to live with thicker than desired lines to keep the
formatting in PowerPoint.

By the way, I have no idea what a NURBS element is, nor how you set or
modify the the endX or endY values -- I am just a "meat and potatoes" VISIO
user.

I am into VISIO and Office Tools for the long run though -- is there any
place I can report this bug to so that it can get fixed before I retire?

Hi Bill

Your scenario with the rounded rectangle is more straightforward then mine

In a fact your 1.8 pt. is the same as mine 0.9 pt
Only you using US units and I am using metric units

Usually this kind of import problems are saved by increasing the weight of
the shape

If you want to report this problem you have to raise an incident with
Microsoft
just call the support hotline for your country

a nurbs element is created when you use the free form tool
this way all the moves of the free form can be accounted for
you can see this in the geometry section of the shapsheet (window/show
shapesheet)
the shapesheet is the database of the shape and it contains all the
information for Visio to draw the shape
