Visio File Size - determining objects actual size

Guest

I have a large Visio drawing, from this version to the
previous version edited by someone else, the file size has
grown from 9MB to over 19MB. My question is -- is there a
way to determine the size each object consumes on the
drawing? If there is some shape that is not large, and I
have many copies of them -- I'd like a way to determine
this.

Thanks...

The number one item to check is the preview thumbnail size. Go to File >
Properties and turn off the preview picture. Then resave your file and
check the size.

After that you will need to do your own sleuthing in the file. You could
write some VBA that counts the shapes in the document, but that won't tell
you their size. You can also look at your contents in the Drawing Explorer
(under the View menu). Look for excessive grouping, shapes that do not
derive from masters or shapes that are repeated.
