visio flow diagrams into word docs

Rita

I am using visio 2007 with office 2003 and have to insert flow diagams into
approximately 20 word documents. As a test, I have copied/pasted a visio
flow diagram (file size @ 1mb) into a word document. The word file went from
33 kb to 8 mb.

Is there a better way to get these visio files into the word documents to
keep the word file size reasonable?
Thanks
Rita

It might be easier to export each diagram as an image (GIF or PNG are
most appropriate) and insert them into the Word document, it will
certainly produce a smaller file size.

Thanks Paul. This was helpful not just w/ visio but with other larger adobe
and pdf files that I am now inserting into word docs by either saving as ....
jpg etc or even easier, copying and then doing a paste special and it pops
right in at the right size.

Rita, bear in mind that Jpegs may not be ideal as they are designed
for photographs, that is what the p in jpeg stands for. For most
purposes GIF, PNG or compressed TIFF will be best or to maintain
details use WMF or EMF.

thanks again. i will try the GIF or PNG formats. In fact, I have now tried
it, and it does seem to work more easily, especially when the diagram is more
than 1 page - I can save each page separately. I will explore WMF/EMF once
I'm actually creating visio charts myself (later today or later this week --
yet another learning curve!!)
