Visio keeps restarting

Tony Collins

My Visio app keeps restarting and will only go into "Safe
Mode". I've re-installed three times now, and initially,
it works properly. However, after about 1 day, it starts
this again. The error I'm getting is a small popup
window that says "Visio has encountered a problem and
needs to close." There is a checkbox in the window to
Restart Microsoft Office Vision. But there are no useful
details about why the app won't start up properly. If I
delete my XP profile and build another one, it seems to
work properly for a short period of time, but eventually,
it comes back.

Hi Tony,

This looks like a Visio 2003 Issue. Please provide details on the following:
1. The Operating system details. like Version, Updates
2. The display driver installed on the system.
3. Are any dual monitor display systems used on this computer?
4. Is there any information about any other dll files in the error message along with the User32.dll?
5. Has Visio ever been working well for a sustained period of time and then throw up errors?
6. Did this error start after any updates were made on the computer?
7. Were any Anti-virus programs running on the system when the installation was done?
8. Please attach the system information file to the case for further scrutiny

Thanks and Regards,

I am having a similar problem: Visio 2002 (SP2) operates
normally, as far as I can tell, but every time I shut it
down it restarts itself. I have to shut it down from the
Task Manager. I installed the newest service pack, but it
did not correct the problem. There is no application
error, so I can't provide any more details on it.

Same issue on my end. Running Visio 2002 (SP2) on XP
Professional with latest updates, 512 Mb Ram, PIII. Task
Manager won't shut it down. All operations appear to be
working as intended.

Hi,

Close Visio, on the Run Prompt type in the command "Visio /r" without the quotes.

This should help clear the problem.

Hi

I have the same issue (Visio crashes everytime I exit and
then takes ages updating the directory cache). I tried
the "Visio /r" trick but it does not make a difference.

Any idea ?

Pierre

yeah i found a way to fix the visio restarting problems by luck
figured why not delete the visio10 folder in the microsoft offic
folder then try a reinstall it worked but do not uninstall it jus
delete the folder it will warn you just click ok and then reinstall he
you reopen it it will say something like a massive change was made t
visio and needs to be reactivated do it then after its all done jus
reopn visio and it will not restat over and over again
