Visio Link to MS Word

We are working on a project where we are documenting processes in a Word
document in Step format. (First this step, then step 2, then Step 3..... )
and then have a Visio process flow that visually shows the steps. What I
like to know: is there a way to link the Word steps to the Visio Document?
That way, when more steps are added, we don't have to manually update each
step in the Visio?

MS Word 2003, SP3
MS Visio 2007, SP1

thank you,

I do this with Excel and shape data. I don't think Visio can link to Word.

You do have to manually add shapes to your Visio document to link to the
data in your external file. Visio can't automatically draw the steps of your
process flow for you based on the data, but it can pull in the information
you've already typed (step number, activity description, etc.). You create
your shapes, then link the data to the shapes. You can then display the data
using data graphics in Visio so that your shapes will be labeled.

Hello Bill,

By 'a way to link the Word steps to the Visio Document' do you mean link, as
in hyperlink, or to generate Visio shapes from the Word doc text?

If it's the former the this link might help, if it's the latter then could
achieve this with some code, but you'd need to have some kind of structure
to the language you use in the document.

Best regards

John
