Visio saved as HTML - can I set the set default zoom factor?

Mark Wilson

I have a very large organisation chart created using the Organization Chart
Wizard in Visio 2007. If I save this for the web, the initial view (100%) is
tiny because of the width of the diagram.

It's not until I zoom in to 500% (closer would be nice) that it becomes
readable.

Is there a way to set the default zoom level on a Visio web document?

(I've tried increasing the font and shape sizes before exporting, but that
just increases the size of the diagram so the effect is the same!)

Thanks for any help you can give, Mark

Hello Mark,

The answer is no, I'm afraid (unless you're hosting in a server based page
where you can pass in parameters).

The 100% is the hard coded default, however, I'm in the middle of looking at
what changes would be required to create the behaviour you're describing.

I'll report back here once I've made some progress.

Best regards

John

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly John. I feared that might be the
case.

I'd be intrerested to hear what you turn up - not sure if the fact that I'm
hosting this on a SharePoint server helps me? (probably not!).

Cheers, Mark

Just for anyone else who's trying to do this, I found an old (pre-2007) post
which included &zoom=200 at the end of the URL so I added &zoom=500 to mine
and it worked!

Would still be good if anyone knows how to make this zoom in even further!

Hello Mark,

Sorry, my mistake, you are quite right. For some reason I'd tried this on a
local machine and jumped to the wrong conclusion.

I've tried to set the record straight here:

http://visualsignals.typepad.co.uk/vislog/2009/04/save-as-web-url-parameters.html

Regarding your 500% max zoom issue, the answer is yes you can override this.
In a quick test I got up to 1000% (not sure if there's a limit). You need
to make changes in the widgets.htm and main page files.

I'm going to write this up as another blog post so if you can hang on I'll
post back here when it's complete.

Best regards

John

Hi John, I've been following this thread and also your blog hoping to see
your solution for setting the zoom beyond what seems to be a 500% limit.

Like Mark, I have a visio diagram that is increeedibly massive and really
needs to reach zooms of around 1000-2000 percent to be fully usable.

In the widget file, as you mentioned, you can replace the numbers there in
the javascript so that, for instance, the max zoom notch on the 'pan and
zoom' window is 1000% instead of 500%. I have played around with these
values,

(<a href="javascript:tickSelect(500);" title="Zoom to 500%"><img id="t500"
src="tick-off.gif" alt="Zoom to 500%" width="17" height="11"
border="0"></a></td></tr>)

a bunch and but so far I have either an 'error on page' after editing these
values, or the mouseover says "1000%" but doesn't actually zoom to 1000%
when the highest zoom level is clicked on...

What values did you edit in order to zoom to 1000% when you did it? Thanks
Mark!
