Visio timeline with milestones

I'm trying to create a timeline in Visio. When I add a line milestone to the
timeline, both the date and the text description appear above the horizontal
line. Ideally, I would like for just the text to appear above the line and
for the date to appear the horizontal line so that it looks less crowded. At
first I just hid the dates to clean things up, but that is a little self
defeating since I'm using Visio to make updating the timeline easier/a little
more automatic. If I have to insert text boxes for the dates, then I might
as well just do it all in ppt.

Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If they are any use I created some milestones with just the description, i.e. no dates.

Nice Paul. I had forgotten that you did this. To provide another option, I
modified the line milestone shape which provides a control handle to move the
date around, and the right click shape menu provides the option to turn the
date on/off. See

Not as thorough as Paul, I did just the one shape.
