Visio XP shape stencils lost when upgraded to version 2003

Visio XP Pro had a different and more extensive stencil set than version 2003
Pro - especially for the network stencils that were lost when upgraded to
version 2003. Can I add the stencils from the XP version CD into the stencil
library of version 2003 pro installed on my PC?

You can. Just place them in a folder and go to Tools > Options > Advanced >
File Paths to tell Visio where to find them.

Thanks, but because I could not discern whether I should have the file path
listed as a stencil or a template, I decided to store the folder in "My
shapes" so that I would still open a 2003 template with the older XP shapes
easily retrieved. Some times you just want to work in 2D. It would have been
great for MS to keep all the XP shapes in addition to the new ones generated
in 2003.
