What the heck did they do to the notepad tool? Merge Wordpad and Notepad
together? I was trying to get clean, pure plain text and its all fonts and
stuff. Egads, can they leave NOTHING in peace?

Nope - my Vista has Notepad AND Wordpad, and Notepad is exactly as it always
used to be....

Perhaps you are looking in the wrong place? For instance this group is
for issues relating to MS Office applications, while Vista is an
operating system and has it's own group for questions.

That is where i looked. I don't have a problem FINDING it, I have a problem
with its new behaviour.

GORDON - do you mind humoring me and looking again at your Notepad? Do you
have a Format menu? With an option for Font? It has me totally second
guessing the purety of my plain text text.

Thanks!

Shows how often I used it then, doesn't it? I think of notepad as my code
editor, place to fix HTML and a place to ultimatly clear any text formatting
that Word wont clear. Hmrf. Now what do I use?

The FONT is only for display inside Notepad. Set it to Courier or
whatever makes you happy and use it like you wish.

I think you miss my point. The whole purpose of working in a plain text
environment is to produce just that - PLAIN text. How can I trust the results
now, knowing that there might possible be formatting embedded in it? Your
link got me no place interesting btw. Should I be searching for something?

Maybe there is no fix, maybe I'm just venting that there are those tools
wich were perfect just the way the were when originally published way back
when, so why does M$ always feel the need to gunk them up? Its a rhetorical
question I suppose.

No. It looks like notepad always did....

I admit I never noticed that font before, but it only changes the view
in WordPad, it does not save anything other than plain text. Try saving
something and then open it up in say Word or WordPad. You will see that it
is still plain text.

Come on, there are dozens of text editor programs that work in
Windows, try vim/cream.

No, YOU are confused. It IS plain text. Notepad in Vista is NO DIFFERENT
than the previous versions. As I said "The FONT is only for display
inside Notepad". It has nothing to do with the file contents. Prove it
to yourself, open a text file, set the Font to Wingdings, save the file,
close and reopen Notepad, set the font to Courier, and open the file
that you "believe" contains the Wingding font. Surprise, NO Wingding!! I
will repeat "The FONT is only for display inside Notepad". There link
contains nothing other than to point out there was nothing changed. Of
course there is no fix, there is nothing broken. And yep you are just
venting, and about nothing at all, there is no conspiracy, no gunked up
Notepad, nothing.
