Visual Basic Error Notice When Using Word (Office XP)

I had to reload my entire OS and office software this
week due to virus problems on my desktop.

Now, when I open or close Word, I get the Following Error
notice:

A window opens with the header "Microsoft Visual Basic"

and the following comment appears:

"Compile Error in hidden module: Autoexec"

The window gives me two options "OK" and "Help" If I
choose "OK", Word closes immediately. If I don't chose
anything, then the word program just locks up.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
