Visual Basic "File Not Found" error

Sandra

Greetings!

I'm using Project 2000 and Project 2003. When I try to open my data file I
get a pop up that says "Visual Basic Error, File not Found". I select OK and
it pops up again...I select OK and it allows me access to the file. I also
get this error when I go into the Organizer and click on "Modules" or when I
try to access Visual Basic. I haven't written any code or imported any
macros. I've tried to completely wipe all the modules and code out of the
project but I still get this error. Has anyone come across this error before?

Thanks!

Hi Sandra,

I am sort of having the same exact problem. I have a project plan in 2003
that I sahre with someone else who uses 2000. He gets this error message all
the time also. I do not agree with Gerard, I don't think it has anything to
do with the file being corupted. Using 2003 I have No problems with the
file, it's only a problem in 2000. Let me know if you find solution.

Thank you both for answering. Gerard - I've tried to "uncorrupt" the file
using numerious methods and none has helped.

Joe, the error I'm encountering happens in both 2003 and 2000. It's
probably the same error as yours. The only way I've found to correct it is
to recreate the schedule. Open a blank file and copy the old data to the
blank file. I hesitate to do this because it's a lot of data to reconstruct.
We all know that copy/pasting Project files can become sticky. If I find
another way to repair the file I'll definitely let you know.

Thanks again gentlemen for your help,

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Try opening a new file and then Inserting the problem project.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Hello Mike,

That worked like a charm! THANKS! No more error...but one more question.
How do you convert the new project from an inserted project into a
normal/regular project?

You're welcome, Sandra :)

I've tried out a few ideas, and the best seems to be to shrink the inserted
project by clicking the little minus sign, then click its row ID (should be
#1) to select the whole of the inserted project. Now copy , open a new file
and paste it in.

Hi John - here's the full thread. She couldn't open the file but was able
to insert it. There's obviously some corruption, so I suggested copy/paste
to re-create the original project.

Mike,
Obviously I'm picking up this thread somewhere other than at the
beginning. What does Sandra mean about converting "...the new project
from an inserted project..."? An inserted project is a subproject in a
master (even if it is the only one). All she should have to do is to
select the insertion line of the subproject in the master and then go to
Project/Task Information/Advanced tab. Uncheck the "link to project" box.

Mike,
Ok, I see why you answered the way you did. I helps to have the whole
picture.

Hello John,

I wasn't able to log into the newsgroups for almost a month so the thread
became a bit separated.

Mike - You're worth your weight in gold! Thanks!
