Hi

I am having trouble importing into access a Vosual Foxpro dbf file. The
file itself doesn't import through the standard import utility as it is not a
standard DBF filie, you have to connect to it through ODBC.

When I try this I get an unreserved error -7778 message which has no info on
it, just an OK and help button.

Has anyone ever come across this or have any ideas as to what I can do to
get the table into my database or link to the file?

Help much appreciated!!

Hi Andy,

Please be sure you have the latest FoxPro and Visual FoxPro OLE DB data
provider, downloadable from
msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates/odbc.

If you are using a File DSN change to a User or System DSN.

The only DBFs that are importable through the "standard" import utility are
Dbase IV format DBFs, which is the format FoxPro for DOS and FoxPro for
Windows used.

Visual FoxPro tables require the ODBC driver, or sometimes must be accessed
via OLE DB and ADO. All table formats from Visual FoxPro 6 and below,
including Fox 2.x tables are accessible via ODBC.

Over time (VFP7-9) new data features have been added to VFP tables that are
not compatible with ODBC. However, tables created with VFP7-9 that do not
use any of the new data features are ODBC compatible.
