VPN and accessing the Project Server Data Base

Sally

I have two remote users getting this message when then try to access project
server using VPN. For one, the message goes away when she accesses project
server from work instead of home. The permissions on both look "right." We
have demonstrated the ability to VPN to successfully log on to project server
but that user was an admin. The permissions on both users who generated this
message look "right." Has anyone seen this before and, if so, what was the
correction? Thanks!

Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error 53
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect())
Connection failed
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL server does not exist or
access denied.

Hi Sally,

There may be a problem with resolving the SQL Server address over the VPN.
One thing you can try is to use EditSite.exe or ConnInfo.exe to reset the
database connection for Project Server and replace the server name for the
SQL Box to the IP Address for the SQL box.

How many people use VPN access for Project Server? If VPN access to the
system is used by many people but the problem is only occurring for the
couple of users then I would more inclined to focus on the setup for the
couple of users.

Good luck with it all.

Aaron,

Thanks for the information. It's nice to have an alternative to changing
the registry and risking the problems associated with that!
