W 7 - Search & Replace doesn't work

E

e

Office 2007 on a T7700 laptop, with Vista Business

Overall, a fine performer.

Select Search & Replace (Ctl-H) on a large document
(saved in any format), and after picking the parameters
the blue ring just spins. When I move the ring over
CANCEL and click, the dialog box goes white and MSWord
closes.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi E,

What is the search string and choices you're using. There are a couple that can have some quirks. Was the document new in Word
2007 or created in a prior version?

Do you have Service Pack 1 to Office 2007 installed?

Hi Bob,

The document was downloaded as a text file. The failure
occurred when the file was loaded as text, AND when
saved as a Word file and then reloaded. Document is an
ebook, size is about 300k - I'm making it more readable
on a Treo screen.

The search string replaces two "enters" with one
followed with four spaces, so it was ^p^p to ^p....

It's Office 2007 with SP1, and Vista Business with SP1.

Thanks,

Ike

Hi Ike,

The ^p^p is one that seems to cause odd behavior in Word 2007 (v12)

Try searching for ^p and replace with ^g
(be sure wildcards are off), then use your
^p^p replace with ^p
to see if you get better results

Hi Ike,

Oops. My mistake the ^g should be ^&

============
^g? It isn't recognized.

I replaced ^p with ccc, then replaced cccccc with ^p.
That worked.

Where can I find such information as "...seems to cause
odd behavior in Word 2007..." ?? Priceless!

Thanks,

Ike >>

Bob,

Whether & or g or ?, your workaround is valuable and I'm
grateful. But where do you learn such things?

And if you are good at Office 2007 puzzles, here is
another...

Occasionally, Word won't support click/drag to capture
text. I can put the pointer at one location, then use
shift-click elsewhere, but cannot click/drag - the
cursor doesn't move. Closing and reloading Word solves
it. "Smart cursoring" and "allow text to be dragged and
dropped" don't make any difference.

??

Ike

PS: Vista and Office 2007, and this problem existed
before and after SP1. It occurs only in Office.
