W2000-hidden formatting text displayed on Load

When I open a document from within Word 2000, it loads
normally except that all the hidden document info
(formatting, text styles, headers, etc) is displayed as
normal text within the document. If I save the document
without deleting this text, it is saved too. Weirdly, if I
simply double-click on a document, then it starts Word and
loads properly, with no additional 'format' text.

I would normally reinstall Word, as it seems like a
corruption, but I have misplaced the disk. I do have Word
2000 on my laptop too - can I copy a DLL over? Or
something else???

In the File Open dialog, change the "Files of type" setting from "Recover
Text from Any File" to "All Word Documents." As long as you close without
saving, you're okay, but any documents you have saved in "recovered" format
will have to be reformatted.
