Waiting to download...but never happens!

It just happened in the last day or so. When I click to open a file, it asks
if I would like to download. I click yes, but nothing happens from there on.
The status simply says "waiting to download." I've done this with big and
tiny files, so I don't think size is issue. All files are set to download
automatically.

any help is appreciated.
