Waiting to open folders

I'm having to wait an extraordinarily long period of time for folders to
open before I can load a file into Word 2003 or save an attachnent in
Outlook 2003 (OS: Windows XP Professional SP2).
Can anybody suggest a reason for this?

Usually because there is a mapped drive or something that Windows is finding
difficult to resolve in Explorer. Open up Explorer and make sure that all
mappings are current and fully accessible.
