"Waiting to sync this section"

I get the following message when I open a section: "Waiting to sync this
section. Another OneNote program created it but has not uploaded the content."

I created a new section in a notebook on my laptop. Closed out of OneNote
2007 on my laptop. Opened OneNote 2007 on my desktop and then opened the
notebook that I had created on the laptop--the notebook is on a directory
that is accessible from both the laptop and the desktop. When I go to the new
section I get the message mentioned above.

I don't want to waste your time if this is a complicated problem...just
thought I'd ask in case there is an easy answer. Otherwise I won't use
OneNote on my desktop and then I won't have to worry about sharing issues.
Thanks.

This message is an unavoidable occasional consequence of OneNote's
syching mechanism. Most other programs require you to explicitly save
your work, and prevent you from doing anything else until the save is
complete. OneNote is different, in that it automatically saves in the
background. To avoid excessive disk and network access, this saving
doesn't happen on every keystroke, but on occasional intervals. If
OneNote is prevented from successfully saving something (such as if it
is closed before the save happens, or the network is disconnected, or
something similar), other computers will see this message. The content
is still safe in the OneNote cache on the computer that created it. To
fix it, all you need to do is boot up OneNote on that computer and let
it sync. OneNote will sync automatically, but you can also manually
trigger a sync from the File->Sync menu, or by pressing F9.

If you're still having problems after letting OneNote sync, post here
and we'll try to figure out what's going on.

This cannot be the whole truth, because normally a OneNote instance on
one computer, accessing a notebook doesn't know of another instance of
OneNote working offline "with" the same notebook.
The situation/message described here must have a special reason.
I think the reason for this message is that "another OneNote program"
wanted to save/sync, created a lock for the changed part of the section
and could not make the necessary write, because it was killed, lost
connection or whatever reason.

Am I right ?

OneNote will always assume that there is potentially another instance of
OneNote working with the notebook, and will use the same sync logic.

You're right, an interruption of a sync is required to get this message.
In this particular case, OneNote on the laptop likely was shut down
after it created the section, but before it could finish saving it.

Thank you for clarifying.

Thanks for your help. Tried the File->Sync suggestion, but the message did
not go away. Since I wasted a chunk of time on it this past weekend (don't
have more time to spare on the issue), I just went ahead and deleted the tabs
that were giving me problems. Hopefully, I won't have the issue again.
Thanks.
