Want to rotate text

B

Bob Perkins

Using Word 2003. I want to rotate text by an arbitrary
amount [e.g. to position street names on a sketch map].
I've tried (1)text in a Draw-Rectangle [The text moves
with the rectangle, but does not rotate with it]; (2)
Text in a Text Box [Can't rotate the text Box]; (3) Word
Art [I used this in an earlier version of Word. It was
cumbersome but did work. Can't find how to rotate Word
Art in Word 2003]. If Word Art is the answer, can I use
regular text fonts rather that the exotic fonts from the
Word Art menu? Any suggestions? Thanks.

WordArt objects in Word 2002/2003 are (for reasons unknown) inserted In Line
With Text. You have to change the wrapping in order to rotate them. WordArt
uses TrueType fonts, and you can change the font to TNR or anything else
"ordinary," but getting WordArt to look like ordinary text is still a
challenge. It helps if you start with a gallery selection that is as close
as possible to normal text, such as the first one (which has no shape
distortion) or the third one (which has no character enhancements), then
remove all the glitz (fancy shape, shadow, color, etc.). Actually, one of
the easiest might be the third one in the third row (green marble with a
shadow). Change the color (you may want to use black fill and no line) and
remove the shadow and you have black TNR.
