Want to use relative filenames in MS Project

Lengthy filenames are making my MS Project external successors and
predecessors unreadable. If I was able to see 'relative' filenames '.\' and
'..\' they would be easier to understand. Is there an 'option' to ask MS
Project to express relative filenames?
