Warning: Availability data has not been published for one or more

Warning: Availability data has not been published for one or more resources
in the selected date range.

We are using PS 2002 SP1.

I get the abovementioned warning when I try to view the resource's
availability. I see it across the board for all the resources. But let us
consider this one example: A resource who has a custom calendar (6 hr
schedule, 8am-2pm) and does not have any published assignmnets after April
2005. When I look at the resource's availability. It drops to zero after Jan
2005 (Using the view "Assignment by Resource" Resources -> View
Availability). Shouldn't that resource availability be 30 hours a week. The
enterprise calendar above is set to run from 2002 to 2049 with 6 Hr schedule
for all the working days.

Please suggest why am I getting this error and inaccurate availability
report.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The message indicates that the system is not updating resource availability
information beyond January 2005. This is due to settings that your Project
Server administrator has established in the system initially. If you need
resource availability information farther into the future, your Project
Server administrator should perform the following steps:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions

2. Click the Admin menu

3. Click the Manage Enterprise Features link

4. Click the Update resource tables and OLAP cube link in the sidepane on
the left

5. In the Date range for resource availability section, select the "Use the
following date range..." option and then specify a value 6 months or more in
the future

6. Click the Save Changes button

The next time the system rebuilds the OLAP cube and processes resource
availability, you will see the information you seek. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your help.

This means that what shows in PWA Resource availability chart is not a true
representation of resource availability in future. Therefore to get true
availability the cube must be updated for a range of 45*12 months or from now
to 12/31/2049.

A person's true availability is dependent on the enterprise calendar, with
vacation and weekends blocked out plus the time assigned to tasks.

Does PS use PWA availability to level enterprise resources?

Thanks,
I-Ali

I-Ali --

You should NEVER update the resource availability range until 2049, as doing
so would be a terrible waste of server time and resources. Instead, the
resource availability in Project Web Access should be set far enough into
the future to be useful to your project managers and resource managers in
the planning of resource assignments in projects. Whether this is 6 months
or a year or whatever is up to your organization.

When you open a project in Microsoft Project Professional and apply the
Resource Usage view, you can see resource availability through December 31,
2049. I believe this should meet your resource analysis needs.

And no, leveling does use the resource availability information you see in
PWA. It uses the availability you see in Microsoft Project Professional.
Hope this helps.

Oops! I made a mistake in my last paragraph. It should read, "No, leveling
does NOT use the resource availability information you see in PWA..."
Sorry.
