Watermarks

I have created a short brochure in word, including a front cover. I then
added a picture watermark using the 'format' process. I do not want the
watermark on the front cover but am unable to remove it from just the first
page of the document. Of course I can turn page 1 into a separate document
but I can't help feeling that there must be a way using Word.

Enable "Different first page" for headers and footers (on the Layout tab of
Page Setup). This may suffice, but if you you still see the watermark on the
first page, view the First Page Header, select the watermark, and delete. It
will remain anchored to the Header on the other pages.
