Web Bullets and Symbols

When a .ppt is saved as a web site, the symbols, bullets, and quotes are not
translated into web entities. BBEdits "Translate" utility can be run on the
..htm files for slide text, but the bullets seem to be some sort of .css
style. Can I modify it?

Office 2004's PowerPoint does an almost adequate job of translating some
symbols when a .ppt saved on the Mac is shown on a Windows PC, but not when
it is saved as a web site. Of course, the Windows Office 2003 must have
SP1, the PNGs and Alpha are still ugly, and only a few transitions work. The
"compatibility" report only caught the dropshadows, and wasn't very helpful
about that.

So what can I do about the bullets in the web pages?

Dual 1.42 GHz G4 1GB
PowerPoint/Office 2004 11.1.1
Firefox 1.0.6

Hi Scott-

Have you tried using custom bullets from the Wingdings font or using the
'picture' bullets (which are .gif images)?

I have used a text editor (BBEdit) to translate all symbol characters from
the non-standard codes into standard web entities. I just can't find the
file that assigns the bullet character. I don't know if CyberTaz's first
idea would work, since the Web option of the PPT "Save As..." function
produces a ton of files, including a CSS file that assigns a .bullet_ class
that I can't fathom. Maybe the 'picture' bullets would work better than the
symbol fonts...

I'm just aiming for true xplatform functionality... Do I have to test it on
a machine without MS Office?

Hi Scott,

When I tried using bullet pictures the Save As Web Page feature would
not display the bullets in web pages. Let me know if you have the same
experience.

Thanks.
