"Web doesn't exist at http:/......."

david

Following a virus infection we formatted our drive and
reloaded all our programs and data.

Now, FP2000 refuses to publish. It has always worked fine.

The website data is all correct on our PC and Fp knows
it's there. Our website is up and running on our server
and FP extentions are enabled.

We have used FP for years and are nmot novices, but now
when we try to make amendments and updates to our website
we get the message " A web doesn't extist at http:// ".
We know that it does.

Why can't FP find it please and what should we do ?

Thanks David.

1. Ensure the web server is installed and running properly.
a) Check the Services applet and make sure IIS is running
b) make sure there are no events in the Event Log that indicate failure
2. Ensure the FrontPage extensions are configured
a) Easiest method, right click default web in IIS Manager
and All Tasks >> Check Server Extensions
3. Ensure the person publishing has authoring rights on the server.

#3 is easier in Windows 2000, which has an operators tab, than newer
versions of IIS. In Windows 2k, you can simply add your authors here. With
newer versions, someone with admin rights has to use the FrontPage server
extensions configuration web to get this info into the metabase.

One more thing. Not knowing which server OS you are using, I do not know
which version of the FP extensions are loaded. I would suggest going to
http://www.microsoft.com/office, then downloads and getting the latest FP
2000 extensions there and trying again after configuring the extensions so
you can author.
