web site estimate(value)

For a non-proffesional, is there anyone anywhere I could approach to
obtain an estimate of the value of a web site I'v created for someone -
sort of a "what would you charge to re-create this", to give me an idea
what I should charge for it - though I'll likely take all estimates and
devide by two -perhaps- for a non-proffessional, but neighborly figure.
appreciate any ideas, thanks.

It's really hard to give an answer, because I have no idea of the complexity of the design or what
features were incorporated into the web such as DHTML, CSS, forms, etc.

However, if it's a simple website with mainly "text" pages and simple links to other pages in the
site, and you were responsible for registering the domain, setting up the server account, making
sure the Domain was entered into the DNS system I would charge:
For a 5 page site, $250 and then a minimum of $25 per additional page, and that price is extremely
conservative.

If you had to create / edit custom images, custom mouseover images for links etc, the price would
double.
If you had to create forms, a database or any custom scripting etc it would then be a "minimum" of
$65.00 an hour for my time.
( again, that's extremely conservative. Many places charge $90.00 per hour and more )

The most I've charged is $100.00 per hour to straighten out a "broken" website. Took me two hours.

I have seen 5 page websites go for $1500.00. As I said it's really hard to "compute."

What is your time worth, how difficult was the task. How much did you learn, and how much of this
learning experience should the "client" **not** have to pay for.

Many thanks... good points to be considered, I'll take them into
account....
it did take a fair bit of devlopment, at the start it was basically a
"blank page", at the start with no real fixed theme in mind, we had to
try out a few color ideas, and an overall "look", and as such over
time the right feel and look was developed. Drop down menus, flash
portions to highlight certain aspects, a "brochure" page which was
requested to have a particular font used! that took a bit of thinking
about - but eventually created it in flash.. each page is a separate
scene... and though it takes about 30 seconds to load up (20 pages,
each screen size, so no scrolling up n down), and it worked out pretty
good!
Number of pages in the site, is aprox 62, one portion of the site
incorporated an existing site, which needed bringing in and becoming
part of this new site - it's existing menus and lack of a top frame had
to be rebuilt - top frame due to the fact that there are links to 22
pages on this one alone - so holding the top drop down menu, in a top
frame, seemed a whole lot better for ease of navigation - plus why
replicate the menu on every page! :)
so yeah.. one way or another it's pretty big.. most of the graphics
were supplied, (for products), all other navigation buttons I made up
from scratch. I purchased two programs to make life easier!
MenuMaker and an FTP program which I prefer using for uploading .
it's www.karenzhealthbeauty.com

You need to take a look at the site with your monitor resolution set at 800 by 600.
Some of the left navigation in the lower frame is out of sight and inaccessible at 800 by 600.

47% of "web surfers" do so at 800 by 600.
