Web Site Works - Browser Problems

First, many, many thanks to DavidF and Rob for all your help. I added the
page numbers through Web Page Options, used index as the file name when I
Published to the Web, and downloaded Irfanview to compress and crop the
images. Everything worked beautifully and my Web site is finally uploaded.
However, I’ve encountered a glitch, and I’m hoping for some suggestions.

I created my Web site in Pub2003 on my laptop which has Vista and IE7. My
desktop has Windows 98 – yes, it’s a relic – with IE6 (I thought I had IE5),
no firewall, and Pub2000. When I viewed the new Web site on my desktop, no
images appear and the navigation bar does not work. The links I’ve created
and audio work. This is just so bizarre because my previous Web site – the
one this updated Web site replaced – is 62MB, while the updated Web site is a
little less than 10MB. I was able to view the older Web site on my desktop
and it was fine.

I’ve had several people test view the updated Web site with various
computers and browsers and with the exception of a few malfunctions in Safari
1.1, the Web site is perfect, with no problems at all with IE6. So, I know
this is a problem only with my computer, and after speaking to several techs,
I learned that the “cmd†file cannot be found in run and that I should
reinstall IE6.

Anyway, my desktop computer is acting even stranger. This morning when I
looked at the newsgroup postings, my messages from April 1st were not there;
but they show in newsgroup on the laptop. I have even restored the registry
on the desktop – could only go back to April 4th, but still have the same
issues.

A new hard drive was installed in the desktop last year and after
downloading IE6, I encountered various browser problems – the computer would
freeze when accessing Web sites with numerous videos and very large images.
Also, occasionally, I have to change how to view my documents because it
reverts to Large Icons and I prefer List. Generally, it still worked okay,
but I have been planning to reinstall IE6 with hopes of correcting the
problems.

I apologize for going on about what may be a browser problem, but I did read
the posts on March 7th and thought I might be able to pick up some help here.
Also, I did read through the IE6 newsgroups for some advice, and I am
following a post there, but if anyone has an idea of what may be the problem,
I would appreciate your help.

Again, thanks DavidF and Rob. My Web site might not work on my desktop, but
at least the rest of the world can see it!

Janice,

You are welcome.

It does sound like asking for advice from the IE group about fixing IE is a
good idea...as is reinstalling it.

Good luck.
