Web will not open!

You name it, I've tried everything to open my web. I got it to 2 days ago,
but now it will not open it again! I'm thinking that it might have something
to do with one of my shared borders. One side is about 6.35 KB and somehow,
don't know how, the other side is 133 KB!! What the heck, how did I do that?
FP just displays Loading C:/ My documents......etc on the bottom and never
opens anything, that's why I'm thinking it might have to do with the size of
the one border. What should I do? Is there a way that I can delete some of
it another way? Or is there a trick to getting it to open? I don't even
know if this is the problem.

Thanks,
Jen

Use My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to the _border folder for the web and copy the specific
border file to your desktop. Then open the original in notepad and delete everything that is between
the opening and closing body tags, save. Now see if you can open your site correct in FP.

Hi Thomas, it's me AGAIN! I had posted on the 12th about this problem and
still can't figure it out! My server insists that it's not with them, so I
guess I have to kind of believe them. I tried what you suggested and that
didn't make a difference. And now it's displaying that the border is only
2.45KB. Who knows.....maybe it's not my borders anymore, but what should I
try next? Now it's starting to make me upset since it's been going on almost
a week now.

To be clear, where is this problem happening when you open local web or when you try to open the web
on the live/remote server?

And if it is happening with your server based site, the
URL would help us help you.

Just to be safe, I'll tell you exactly what I do. I open FP, click on
File/Open/ (and the computer was set to automatically open the web I'm
currently working on) and on the bottom left hand side, right about the start
button it says "Loading C:/my documents....etc) and it just continutes to
load. I have to ctrl/alt/delete to shut down the program because it never
loads anything. We went through the computer and got rid of the junk just
incase that was slowing it down, I uninstalled and reinstalled FP just in
case it was there, my server still insists that it's not them. My URL is
http://momonabudget.com, but my website isn't being displayed because someone
who I'm being hosted through changed something with my root folder, told me
to reinstalled my FP extensions and then publish my web, but he didn't
understand that I can't publish it because I can't open it! I'm willing to
try just about anything at this point!

Thank you,
Jennifer

Yep, it does have a globe on the folder and that's how I open it up. I think
I'm gettin g the 403 error because it can't find my homepage, but that's
because my server fixed a root folder problem so it's not seeing my homepage
yet until I republish my website. But I can't do that until I can open the
folder. It's so weird I just can't figure out what could possibly be wrong!

Jennifer,

How are you trying to open your site on the live/remote server, can you provide the steps?

What Rob had told me to do in his previous post is exactly how I usually open
my web. A few people tried suggesting different ways of opening it, but
nothing worked. As soon as frontpages came up it said "Loading......."etc
and never loaded anything. I think I just need to get rid of FrontPages and
try something else. I don't know what else to do, as this is kind of urgent!
I've just really liked FP up until now!

Got any other suggestions?

Have you considered calling MS Product Support?

You do not have a local server (http), you are working with a disk based web on your local machine
and you need to be opening a site, not a file.

Here are the steps from the very beginning to open the site on your local computer...

1. Start FP2003
2. File Menu | Open Site
3. Look In: My Webs
4. Unless you see a folder in the dialog box with a globe on it, do not click on any folder shown in
this window. The globe would indicate that folder is a subweb/subsite, any you can double click to
open it.
5. Click Open
6. You should now see:
Content of: C:\Documents and Settings\<your-username>\My Documents\My Webs

To open the site on the live/remote server...

1. Start FP2003
2. File Menu | Open Site
3a. Look In: My Network Places or
3b. Site Name: enter http://www.yourdomainname.com
4. Enter your login info
5. Click Ok
6. Unless you see a folder in the dialog box with a globe on it, do not click on any folder shown in
this window. The globe would indicate that folder is a subweb/subsite, any you can double click to
open it.
5. Click Open
6. You should now see:
Content of: http://www.yourdomainname.com

Opening a site on your local machine has nothing whatsoever to do with opening your site on the
live/remote server, however if you have FP set to open the last open web, then FP will attempt to
always open the live/remote site when it is started, if this was the last site you had open.
