webdings problem

have you guys ever seen this error - whenever i open up an
old document and highlight til the very end, and then press
delete (not backspace) all the text gets formatted to
Webdings. Not the text that i selected to delete, because
that is gone, but all the text previous to the highlight
which was all Times New Roman, is now webdings. THis is
too strange. I am using Word 2000.

Another problem i have is that whenever I select a word by
hightlighting it and try and Bold it, the whole document is
Bolded. Has anyone seen this problem before? I am pulling
my hair out trying to fix this. I looked around in options
to try and fix this and also looked around and tried to see
if the default template had anything to do with this.

I did notice that there were two templates and one of them
had webdings in it, so I deleted it, but I still don't
understand how when I delete highlighted text, why the text
previous to the highlight would change.

For the problem with the whole document changing when you bold some
text, see

This *may* also fix the other problem, if there's a style formatted
with Webdings anywhere in the document.
