With todays broadband internet access and faster computers, I was wondering
what is the best picture size for posting on webpages. I am restoring an ol
truck and I want to post pictures as i move forward with the project. I
would like to have pictures large enough for people to see clearly, but not
take forever to download. I know the resolution does not ned to be over 72
dpi.
Thanks for the help
Tom

I am using a guildeline of an 800x600 visitor viewing screen ( resolution)

So, I am making my large images 750 pixels or less.

In cases where I need the option for them to view a larger image, I display
a link to a larger image.

At 750, it leaves room for differences in Mac screen and scrolling bars at
800x600

Others may have set other guideline horizontal widths. But, this is what I
use.

good programs for re-sizing for web images will also compress not just
change the res to 72.
If you have PhotoShop use Save for web (image ready)
need free:
try irfanview

I am using 800x600 as the total real estate for my sites. Most comp users
don't seem to ever change from the windows default, or they have small
screens or laptops. I am ignoring (for now) users with odd shapes like Mac
widescreens. By default IE resizes the images to the window, again most noob
users will not change the defaults so no matter how large image you post
they are going to look at that re-sized one. I think it's also good to let
them select the image to view from a thumbnail, in case they don't care to
see each image larger or can't see it fast enough etc.
