Website files seem too large too many

I was using Publisher 97 to do a small bike club
website, address is www.rcst1.org This site in Pub 97 is
realatively small, loads quick and was very easy to
update when needed.

The new Pub 2003 software is new to me and maybe I'm
missing something but the same website now would take 10
times longer to load. And then not display as quickly
when accessing the site on-line. Also the actual pictures
take very long to load up and display like there is a
problem initially until they do load.

One problem seems to be that the new software is
producing 2 jpegs for every picture used. One that is
sized appropriate to the image as seen on the site and
another that seems full screen and is very large in
comparision (5k versus 200-300k)

The old version of Publisher only made one small size
jpeg file for each picture used on the site along with
the actual .html page files.

I am using an older version FTP software to upload the
files but didn't think that should be an issue. I did
start the new site copy from the old Publisher 97 files
but playing with a test site that I started from in 2003
it doesn't seem to make a difference in the type and size
of files being created. Both seem to dislplay the problem
of double jpeg files(one seemingly the correct size, and
one full size) for every one picture being used in the
files.

I've tried playing with the option setting for webfiles
but have had no sucess. Any help or direction would be
greatly appreciated.
