Website on IIS 5.1 in XP Pro

S

Sandra

After adding IIS 5.1, the Windows XP Pro tells me, "Your
Web service is now running.......To add documents to your
default Web site, save files in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\."

Do I have to PUBLISH a web to there, or can I copy and
paste to there, or can I save to there? I have FP2002.
I copied and pasted a web, but the components that
require FP extensions do not work.

T

Tom Pepper Willett

Yes, you have to publish a web there. You can't *save* there and you can't
copy and paste there for it to work.

why are you not in fact creating your web as a server based web to begin
with?

It is a web I created earlier. I just installed iis 5.1.
I want to see if the components that require FP

other webs I have been working on, as well.

Thank you for replying.

Yes, you should create server based webs within IIS. You can't copy, paste,

You still will not be able to test the email function of forms as it requires that you also have a
SMTP server.

Install and Set up your FP SE under IIS 1st by seeing
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/sts/2001/all/proddocs/en-us/admindoc/owsd02.mspx

Your root web will be accessed at http://localhost/ or http://yourpcname/
- you can create multiple subwebs for your different sites under your root web
- users w/ multiple sites usually leave the root web empty and create all their FP SE local sites as subwebs

Then open and publish your Disc Based Webs using FP to the server based webs as subwebs under the root server based (localhost) web
using:
File Publish Web/Site http://localhost/webname1/ and http://localhost/webname2/
(After done you can delete each disk based web/site in FP)
In the future just open and work in your local server based sites using File Open Web/Site and using http://localhost/webname1/ and
http://localhost/webname2/

Have a web server allow you test all FP features that require the use of a web server or to test
server-side scripting application, such as those written in ASP (FP's Database component), ASP.net,
PHP (requires the PHP engine), etc. locally. You just can not text any functions that actually
generate emails unless you have a SMTP (Mail) server.

Thank you, Stefan! Your step by step instructions were
such a help.
However, I still have a problem. This is what I did.
1. Downloaded FP SE using the "quiet" method, where I
didn't have to answer questions.
2. Created a subweb called "newsletter."
3. Published a web from Front Page into this subweb.
4. Went to browser and typed localhost/newsletter
5. One of the pages of the web I published shows.
6. I click "submit" on a form.
7. I get the message, "cannot run the FP Server
Extensions on this page."
8. I go into Control Panel->Administrative Tools-
Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator but I see no way to
configure the extensions.
9. I go into Control Panel->Administrative tools->Server
Extensions Administrator where I see FP Extensions
listed, but no way to make any changes.
HELP!

Thank youk again Stefan.
I was hoping I could use the IIS on my machine as the

possibility? But if I can't use forms that send e-mail I

To process Emails you would have to be running your own SMTP mail server

You indicated you could open the Sharepoint Administrator page in your browser
- if it is open you have already access to the admin functions from that page by selecting the Administration link at the bottom of
the page

You can also get to it by opening your localhost site in FP and selecting Tools Server
