Weird Macro Message at Word Startup

M

Meg

I installed Windows and Office XP on my computer a few
months ago and everything seems to work fine, EXCEPT when
I first open up Word, I get a weird message. I believe
it says that my macros may not be enabled and to go to my
settings to adjust this. Does anyone know how to stop
this message from appearing and why i need to "adjust my
macros?"

It's saying the macros (presumably in an add-in being loaded at startup) are
disabled. Go to Tools | Options | Security and change the security level
from High to Medium. Then you will get the option to enable the macros and
more information about what add-in the macros are in so that you can make a
choice. If the macros are signed, you'll also be able to tell Word to
"trust" them so that you don't get this message again.

While you are on the Security tab, switch to Trusted Sources and make sure
that the box for "Trust all installed templates and add-ins." This will
cover your and Word's document templates, plus any add-ins in Word's Startup
folder. Unfortunately, the trust doesn't extend to the Office Startup
folder, which is probably the source of the message you are getting.

You are getting the message because one of the global add-ins contains
macros and your security setting is 'High'. (This is assuming you are
accurately reporting the occasion this occurs, if not the exact error
message.)

First, check what global add-ins are installed (Tools > Templates and
Add-ins) to make sure you recognise them as bone fide templates. Then change
your security settings to Medium, and tick to trust all templates and
add-ins.

Read Word Help (enter 'security levels' in the answer wizard) for more
information.
