Weird outlook problem

I've got a guy using the 2003 version of outlook in the office and everytime
he OPENS a new email on his computer, it then gets sent to his blackberry.
It is only with new emails that come from outside the office, i.e. not from
users on the office domain. I checked the rules and alerts, but nothing is
wrong there. I dont have any idea where to even begin. Haven't ever seen or
heard of anything like this. thanks in advance.

What is he using to synch his email to the Blackberry? The Redirector, a BES,
another method?

I'm actually not sure, I didn't set up his phone and neither did he. Our old
IT guy is the one who set it up and he has been known to do some quirky
stuff. In the office we use and Exchange server, but thats really all I know
until I can get my hands dirty and clean up some of this mess that was left
by the other guy. Any clues of places that I could start looking in outlook
or active directory?

You can check the guy's computer. If he's using the Blackberry Redirector to
reroute mail to his Blackberry, you'll see it on the desktop. It runs like a
service. I believe the computer must be logged in by the user if using the
Redirector in order for it to work properly, and of course locked while
they're away.

If it's being redirected by Exchange, I think it's being done by
autoforwarding and the Blackberry carrier. It's likely a set up with the
carrier and a small change in the user's AD settings for Exchange. In this
case, you'll often see the email arrive to the Blackberry before Outlook or
at least that's been my experience but I'm not overly familiar with this
particular set up. We went from the Redirector to a BES.

If a BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server), then the email should be received
by Outlook and the Blackberry right about the same time.

Find out the method of synch first before you troubleshoot further.

I checked out the guys computer and didn't find any blackberry software, and
I didn't find anything inside of outlook either. finally got a hold of the
old IT guy and he said he set up the phone to access the exchange server here
in the office via IMAP. He remoted in, did some digging, but everything
looks fine. also it should be noted that two other office blackberry's were
set up the exact same way and they are not having any problems whatsoever.
The other IT guy thought maybe the antivirus email scanner might have
something to do with it all, so he removed it. but it should be noted, that
the other guy in the office with his blackberry setup is also running the
default installation of the same antivirus program. regardless, we ripped it
off of the problematic system to at least eliminate another variable in this
cooky equation. i appreciate the help, and thanks again in advance.
