Weird results when sending or receiving in Outlook 2007

When I do a send/receive, the status window flashes and the number of tasks
goes into the thousands and everything fhashes on the screen, like someone
took Outlook over.

The only way to stop it is by killing the process in Task Manager. You
cannot stop the application because it is flashing at a very fast rate.

Any suggestions?

Which mail account type are you using?
Does it still happen in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable/uninstall
this integration and try again.

I do not run any antivirus junk.
It is an intermittent problem, so running in safe mode would not tell me
anything for sure.
I am glad to see that Outlook does not let any other programs run just by
opening an e-mail.
I am still where I started.

I am running Vista, and there is no such thing as outlook.exe/safe

I found safe mode. It does the same thing in safe mode. It is endless.

it's outlook.exe /safe <== notice the space between the words.
