weird shapes appeared in my form and a search key message

Hi. Thanks for the help. I am using Access 2000. I have a database that has
been working fine for months. It contains over 800 records. I was on the form
in one of the records updating some data when suddenly all of the field data
changed to vertical lines. I closed the form, opened the table and on the
same record the shapes are squares. No text is left on this record but all
other records are fine.

When I try to delete this record I get a message telling me that the search
key can not be found therefore the record can not be deleted. Any ideas what
the search key is?

I don't need to keep this line, I can re-enter it but I can't delete it in
order to re-enter it. There is a primary key field using the social security
number.

Also, any ideas what the shapes are and where they came from??

Simplest way to get rid of the record if a basic compact'n'repair does not
work is to get Access to create another table without the bad record. That's
usually not too difficult as long as you do not refer to the bad record in
your criteria.

The strange text and the search key message are signs of corruption.

For more information on corruption including possible causes,
