What are the Size Limits of FrontPage Sites?

J

Jon Edwards

Can anyone tell me what the practical upper limits on size
of a FrontPage website would be?

I'm thinking in terms of numbers of pages, or megabytes,
or complexity (however you'd measure that), or whatever
the relevant limit-type would be.

And why.

Thx - Jon

There really isn't a limit if you structure your site by breaking content up
into sections (subwebs).

Also consider creating a dynamic database driven site to reduce the number
of actual pages needed.

Typically it's the number of pages that will slow you down during the
publish process and the process of recalculating hyperlinks. How many pages
it takes before you see a problem depends on how fast your connection is (in
a fast connection you won't notice the file information being transfered as
much because the process will be much faster) and how powerful the server is
(the more powerful the more horsepower can be used to recalculate the the
hyperlinks and index the pages). Like Tom says, careful planning can
eliminate a lot of problems. For example: you have a lot of text files, and
a lot of files available for download. Put the files for download into their
own seperate web that you can publish by itself, reducing the number of
files and time to publish everything.

Hope this helps,
