WHAT CAN I DO

G

GREG

I DON'T KNOW THAT I AM IN THE CORRECT NEWSGROUP BUT I AM
HOPEING THAT SOMEONE WILL HAVE A CORRECT ACTION FOR ME TO
TAKE. I PURCHASED WINDOWS OFFICE XP AND INSTALLED IT ON
MY LAPTOP COMPUTER FOR WORK PURPOSES, I THEN PURCHASED A
NEW COMPUTER FOR MY DAUGHTER TO DO HER HOMEWORK ON AND
TRIED TO PUT THE SOFTWARE ON THE COMPUTER SO SHE WOULD
HAVE MC WORD AND I COULD DO WORK AT HOME BUT IT TELLS ME
THAT I HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED THE SOFTWARE. I PAID FOR
IT ONCE AND OWN THE SOFTWARE AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE IT
FOR EVERY PURPOSE I SEE FIT. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN
USE IT ON BOTH MY COMPUTERS WITHOUT MESSING THE OTHER OR
IS MICROSOFT THAT GREEDY THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY THESE
INFLATED PRICES.

1.Don't SHOUT. It's rude and hard to read.

2.You should read your software licenses. Outright ownership of most
software has not really existed in the sense that you describe for over two
decades and precedes Microsoft's license agreements.

3. There is a difference between activation and registration. If you bought
Office XP new (and not used and therefore probably already activated
elsewhere) then you can install it on a desktop and laptop for use by one
person.

4. Prices for office productivity suites have fallen in real terms for
decades. If you can't justify a few hundred bucks for incredibly powerful
software then don't buy it.

To add to what Mike has said, you may well need to use phone activation for
the second copy. Note, however, that although your license allows you to
install a single copy on both a desktop and a laptop, these are supposed to
be for mutually exclusive use by the same user, not for use (potentially at
the same time) by two users.
