What corrupts a database

What are some things that cause a database to become corrupt. Does just
clicking the close X (at the top right side of the window) to close a form or
to completely exist out of access cause it to become corrupt? What are some
other things?

Most common casue is a user doing a hard power-down of a desktop, or network
errors such as a bad NIC or HUb.

Closing the application by clicking X should not cause corruption
