May I ask why you want to?

You may...

May I ask why you are asking me?

1) I am a minimalist, and like to disable everything I don't absolutely
need,
and strip down everything to the bare minimum. I dont recall such services
in older versions of office.

2) I am curious about what they are.

3) I hate programs that add services, startup programs, shell extensions,
dlls and other notorious things (that eventually makes your computer crawl
if you install enough of these), without a good cause. I want to know if I
should be mad or not.

4) Do they take up any resources at all? Even if they are on manual mode
to they start up at all during the startup of the computer?

I am using XP.

thank you

Answer in general to this is that everything in the StartUp tab of MSConfig as there as to show you what will start up automatically when you boot your computer. Disabling those items will not disable those services on your computer only on StartUp(Boot). They will start when you access the program. If you disable everything in your Start Up your computer will boot much faster. Then again your Anti Virus will not be automatically start if you disable it there unless you start it manually. So depending what you think should not start automatically then disable those in that Start Up folder.

I was just curious why you wanted to disable them. I see a lot of people who
get advice (often misguided) from "experts". These people start disabling
things willy nilly and then wonder why programs don't work, or why they have
to reformat their systems frequently.

I can appreciate wanting to trim down that list. I've done the same thing
but I Google any items I'm not sure about. I don't normally fuss with the
Microsoft stuff tho. It's the programs that I only use once in a while that
I'll disable.

you can disable any
service and see if
there is a notable
improvement.

keep in mind you
are only disabling
and not deleting them.

so if you encounter
a deficiency, then
remember that you
might need to enable
a service or two.

you can run: services.msc
to get access as well.

generally, you can hide
microsoft services and
what is left visible may
be considered useful or
useless.

some software
install a service, but
when you turnaround
and uninstall it, the
service is still noted.

remember 2 things:
make a restore point to
fall back on.

and access safemode if
you loose any control..
