Hi,
I've recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000
Professional. I am trying to install .net framework v1.1,
however, I get the error message,
"Setup cannot access Windows Installer components. Setup
cannot continue."
I understand pieces of my problem (I don't fully
understand Windows administration). Windows installer,
I've read is an API for installing applications such
as .net, and I understand that the rollback key in the
registry should be "enabled". When I did a search on MS
support, I found the article q312499, however, when I look
for this policy path in the registry, I can't find that
one on my laptop.
I noticed that in the local services for Component
Services under Administrative tools in the Control Panel,
that there was a Windows Installer service that had not
started, but even after starting it (and attempting a .net
install), I still get this error message.
One more thing, when I upgraded to Win 2000 Professional,
I did an "upgrade" install from Win 98, rather than
a "clean" install.
Does anyone have a recommendation for me?
Thanks, Tim...
