What does the phrase "Installation source is corrupted" mean?

I am trying to install Microsoft Office Student Edition on my new Acer laptop
and it keeps saying "installation source is corrupted" and won't let me do
it. I just installed it on my ancient Toshiba laptop with no problems. Any
ideas.......?

You may have a scratched CD or otherwise bad media. Try copying to the hard
drive and install from there.

I got thr same error message on my ACER, even though the disc has been in the
original MS jewel case since I last used it. I downloadied the disk onto my
hard drive without any problems, but still got the corrupt message. Any
other ideas?
