What happens when creating new Word-Document via Explorer (Word 2007!)

I would like to create a new Word-2007-Document direct via Explorer in the
following way.

1. Right click at the desktop
2. New Microsoft Word Dokument --> the system creates a new Word Dokument on
the desktop (size is 0 Bytes!)
3. Open the new Document in Word. This works fine.

The question now ist, which template was copied in this case.

It is NOT the normal.dotx File!
And there is no file in the Windows\Shellnew-Folder for Word 2007 (in word
2003 there was a file in this folder, which was copied!)

Does anybody know, what happens in this case? How can I control a blank
document, which was created in this way?
It would be great, if there is a way to get the system to make a copy based
on normal.dotx, when creating a new document in this way.

Hi Anne,

I have done the following test:
1. Open »Normal.dotm«
2. Put some text in it »Copy of normal.dotm«
3. Make a new file via Word NEW - Blank File --> You WILL get a copy of
normal.dotm
4. Now make a new File via context-menu of the explorer --> You WILL see
thats it is NOT a copy of normal.dotm

So I think, there must be another mechanism in use whren generating the new
file with the explorer.
I would like to make sure, that a user gets exactly the same result,
independant of the way that she/he generates the new file.

I'm not running Word 2007, so I'm guessing here, but--I notice that your
first post referred to normal.dotx, and this post referred to normal.dotm.

This article on Word 2007 templates says:

Each of the template extensions provides information about the type of
template:

DOT = Word 97-2003 Templates
DOTX = Word Templates
DOTM = Word Macro-Enabled Templates
In general, I recommend using the DOTX format for your templates
because it doesn't include macros and is fully compatible with Word 2007

I wonder if the right-click could be using dotx, but you are using dotm?

Failing that, perhaps that post will give you useful information about
achieving your ultimate goal.

Sorry, this was a mistake. Normal.dotm file is correct. There is no
Normal.dotx in Word 2007.
