What happens when I delete an "accepted" message from my inbox?

I receive many accepted messages when I send out a meeting request. Can
these be deleted from my inbox without deleting the individuals from the
meeting? Also, what about forwarded meeting notices - can I delete these or
will this delete them from the original recipient's calender?
