What I did for changes not publishing

T

Maybe someone can explain to me why this works or tell me if it's a bad idea.
I tweak my sites a lot. Sometimes the changes don't show even when all
elements are imported and can be seen from their unique URL, and all browser
caches are cleared. In that case, I re-import the problem page and make the
changes again.

http://www.kathyannscottage.com is one example

Don't import. Publish.

How are you make the changes with a web/site or just a individual page open?
Are you importing all content into your current open FP web / site prior to using?
How are you publishing via FTP or http, is it from within FP?

I always publish before looking for changes online. Isn't that kind of a
"duh?" But rarely, the changes don't show online even with a fresh browser. I
can find the photo online but not on the page.

Tom, good point. I have multiple webs, but on the very first web I created,
I am able to open individual pages out of "my webs". But why would changes
publish sometimes and not always?

I only import certain types of content, like sound or pdf files. Everythings
else automatically imports when I place it on the page, which is why I am
able to find photos and files using their uinique URL. Do you not find this
to be the case?

To effectively use FP, all content needs to either be created within an open FP web / site via FP or
imported into the current open FP web / site prior to the content being used within the FP web.

I have been using FP since 1997/98 and following the above, I have never had any problems/issues
with my content always publishing.

FYI: I only publish to FP enable IIS web servers running under Windows 2000 / 2003.

It must be opening the web correctly because I get 2 FP windows, one blank
and one with the pages I am working on.

You lost me on the last one. I don't know from servers but Eugene at
Arendkay keeps me on the right track so I can concentrate on my business.

You gotta Import or Drag/Drop photos into FP for FP to keep track of where
they are.

They self-import when I insert them onto my page. My sites are commercial and
contain hunderds of pictures. If I had to do everything twice I would buy a
different proggie.

Your version of *self-import* is different from what Rob is telling you.
His method is correct.

But your method will break links - and images may not show up in your
website.

It's not difficult to Import hundreds of pre-prepared images in ONE
shot...how is that more work? Import a zillion pix into your web, then from
there use them in your layout.

btw, it's probably not a real good idea to display your sales tax license on
the web.
