What is a digital file?

I have file I must convert to one file and send as digital file. I am not
sure what a digital file is.

A more important question to ask whoever gave you the
instructions, or to ask the recipient, is what format does the
recipient need the digital file to be in? For example, does the
recipient need plain text, comma separated, Microsoft Word, Adobe
Acrobat, WordPerfect, or which of hundreds of other formats?
