What is a .eml file?

I have opend an email attachment that was from microsoft office and it was a
..doc file. I copied and pasted this document in Open Office and i made
changes to it. Something popped up that said save, discard or cancel and I
pressed save. I have emailed it back to my friend and it came up as the
original in a .htm file and it just looks like the email she orignnally
forwarded me. I have looked everywhere for the document and it is in its
orignal format. Does anyone know where i could find the saved document. I am
so confused???Please help.

An eml file is an Outlook message format, I believe. Check your temp folder
for any doc files, if you don't still have the original e-mail with the
attachment.
