It's considered polite to post your question in the big textbox, not just the
subject line. It's not even clear what program you're using (this forum is for
the database software Microsoft Access), what version, or what status bar
you're using.
That said... Kana is the Japanese phonetic alphabet, and Kana mode would let
you type in Japanese (which I can't; Nihon-gade hana se ma ka).
