what is meant by the term tracking?

Hi there i just wanted to learn a bit more about the tracking part of
microsoft project... what is meant by the term tracking? and why is it
necessary to track a project? and how do yo track a simple project? finally
what kind of report printout could i print that could demonstrate tracking
had occured?

Hello Fathema,

Tracking a project consists in noting down periodically, for example every
week, what has been done and re-estimating the remaining.
Two ways to do that
- You can check the Actual duration and estimate (for each elementary task)
the Remaining Duration
- You can check the Actual Workand estimate (for each elementary task) the
Remaining Work
Try the following:
View / Tracking Gantt
Set a baseline for your project : Tools / Tracking / Set a baseline
then...
Tools / Tracking Update tasks
Enter some values (with some discrepencies...) and look at your Tracking
Gantt
